The Sierra Sun's recommendations for June 3

Measure L
Homeowners in Truckee are acutely aware of the long list of property assessments on their tax statements. And the new assessments for the hospital and fire districts don’t make Measure L any easier to swallow. Except for the fact that Measure L extends a previous measure to fund Truckee-area school improvements. We are already investing in our education system, why, when there remains work to be done, stop now?
The reality is Truckee High School and Truckee Elementary will need improvements sooner or later. Waiting will only lessen how big a bang we get for our buck.
Recommendation: Yes on Measure L

Congressional District 4
Republican Primary: We wouldn’t call Tom McClintock a carpetbagger, exactly, but his decision to run for the District 4 house seat looks a lot like cherry picking.
Doug Ose, meanwhile, isn’t a resident of the district either, but as a resident and former representative of neighboring District 3, he’s at least more familiar with the needs of area residents and the halls of Congress.
Recommendation: Doug Ose

Democrat Primary: The only real Democrat challenger that either McClintock or Ose will face is Charlie Brown. For the sake of a real Democrat challenge in November, it’s Brown.
Recommendation: Charlie Brown

California Assembly District 3
Republican Primary: The Third District includes Nevada County, including Truckee and points north. Nevada County Supervisor Sue Horne is up against Yuba County Supervisor Dan Logue. With Horne’s experience dealing with Sierra issues, such as wildfire, and her time on California’s Regional Council of Rural Counties, she has worked on issues critical to valley communities dealing with levee problems.
Recommendation: Sue Horne

Democrat Primary
Recommendation: Michael Harrington
